CANADIENS (22-15-3) @ FLYERS (15-15-7) TV: NBCSN, RDS, SNE 7:30 p.m. The Canadiens’ eight-game road trip concludes Tuesday night in Philadelphia, where they will face off against the Flyers. Returning to action for the first time since January 1, 2016 in Foxboro, the Canadiens will look to keep the momentum going from their big 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in the Winter Classic. David Desharnais, Paul Byron (2), Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty combined to light the lamp five times for the Habs, while Mike Condon turned aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced to get his hands on his 11th victory of the season. The Winter Classic also saw Gallagher make his return to the lineup after missing six weeks of action due to an injury suffered on November 22. The Habs’ tenacious forward ended his day with two points and a plus-1 differential in 18:12 minutes of ice time. For their part, the Flyers will try to halt their current slide, after suffering defeats in each of their last three games.

BROSSARD – Montreal native Mark Barberio has fit in seamlessly with the Canadiens since being called up to the NHL on December 27. In the span of a week, the Habs’ 25-year-old defenseman was called up for the first time by Montreal, played his first game in a Canadiens uniform, and picked up an assist at the NHL Winter Classic in Foxboro. Should he get the call, playing in front of friends and family at the Bell Centre for the first time would simply be the cherry on top. With the Canadiens scheduled to take on the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Barberio might just get that opportunity. "If I have the chance to play at the Bell Centre on Wednesday, my family and my friends will be there for sure. Fortunately they haven’t asked me for any free tickets or anything like that yet, so it's not so bad," joked Barberio, who posted a plus-3 differential in a 5-1 Winter Classic win over the Bruins. "I'm just trying to focus on winning the next game. They gave me a chance to play and I want to earn t

BROSSARD - It may be a new year, but the Montreal Canadiens’ bad luck with injuries has seemingly carried over from 2015. After kicking off 2016 with a memorable win against the rival Boston Bruins in the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day, the Canadiens returned to practice in Brossard with the notable absence of a familiar face. Absent from Sunday morning’s practice was veteran forward Dale Weise, who suffered a lower-body injury and was forced to leave the game in the second period against the Bruins on Friday afternoon. The injury comes on the heels of Brendan Gallagher’s return to the lineup after missing over a month of action with two fractured fingers on his left hand. Thus the Habs’ season-long battle with injuries continued on January 1st as Gallagher’s return to the lineup was muddied by the loss of the Habs’ 2014-15 Jacques Beauchamp-Molson ‘unsung hero’ Trophy winner. “I think everybody realizes how important Weise has been for us ever since he was acquired. Every night he gives us energ

FOXBOROUGH – The Canadiens rang in 2016 with authority on Friday afternoon – and some serious style, too. Michel Therrien’s troops claimed their Winter Classic debut with a complete team effort, posting a 5-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in front of 67,246 fans at Gillette Stadium. Given their recent struggles, the New Year’s Day win was especially satisfying. Right from the outset, it was evident the Canadiens desperately wanted to beat their Original Six rivals on their home turf and come away with another two points in the standings. David Desharnais lit the lamp just 74 seconds into the opening period, and Therrien’s squad seemed to roll from there. Second-period goals by Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher upped the Canadiens’ lead to 3-0 through 40 minutes of play, and they didn’t look back the rest of the way. “It’s very satisfying, especially with it being the New Year. We know how tough a month December was for us. We wanted to come out and start on the right foot, just give ourselves a ch

Subban. 17 – Number of games Brendan Gallagher missed over the last five weeks as he recovered from surgery to repair two broken fingers in his left hand. Game Preview: CANADIENS (21-15-3) @ BRUINS (20-12-4) TV: NBC, TVA, SN – 1:00 p.m. The Habs and Bruins will write a new chapter in their storied rivalry when the two longstanding adversaries clash outdoors at the 2016 Winter Classic. Bringing in the New Year, the Canadiens and Bruins head to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts where the stage is set for the NHL’s annual outdoor extravaganza. Although the Canadiens opened the scoring in their most recent game on Tuesday night against Florida, the Panthers would storm back to score three unanswered goals to come back and win 3-1. Captain Max Pacioretty scored the lone marker for the Habs while Alex Galchenyuk drew an assist to extend his point streak to five-games. Goaltender Ben Scrivens made 27 saves on 30 shots in Tuesday nights’ loss, including some highlight reel saves to keep the Canadiens in the game. On Thursday, the Habs confirmed that Massachusetts native Mike Condon will get the start between the pipes in Foxboro. Tuesday nigh

Winter Classic Notebook - December 31

FOXBOROUGH – In Thursday's notbook, Brendan Gallagher returns, Mike Condon and Brian Flynn talk about family, and the Canadiens believe a Winter Classic win could be the start of the something good. RETURNING TO ACTIVE DUTY: The Canadiens will be welcoming Brendan Gallagher back to the lineup come New Year’s Day at Gillette Stadium. Gallagher, who underwent surgery to repair two broken fingers in his left hand back on November 23, was on the ice alongside on his teammates on Thursday as they got acclimated to the outdoor rink in Foxborough in preparation for the tilt against the Bruins. Following practice, captain Max Pacioretty was eager to announce the news of Gallagher’s return official in front of media members aplenty at the home of the perennial NFL powerhouse New England Patriots. “I’m proud to announce that Brendan Gallagher will be playing in the Winter Classic tomorrow,” offered Pacioretty, who skated on a line with Gallagher and Tomas Plekanec during Thursday’s practice session. “Looking a

Memories of another time

MONTREAL – On January 1, 2016, several Canadiens will get their shot at redemption to make amends for the battle lost on February 20, 2011. Back in 2011, in a Siberian-like cold at McMahon Stadium - home of the Calgary Stampeders – the Canadiens braved the elements to go up against the Calgary Flames in the second Heritage Classic in NHL history. Unfortunately, the positive memories associated with that experience have been dampened somewhat by the 4-0 final score in favor of the Flames. Thus, Max Pacioretty, Lars Eller, Tomas Plekanec, David Desharnais, P.K. Subban and Carey Price (if he's back in uniform), will look to forge new memories against the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL Winter Classic, which will take place on New Year’s Day at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. "The idea is to remind yourself to have fun out there and take in all that the event has to offer. Once the puck is in play, though, it's just like any other game. There are still two points at stake,” maintained Lars E

A quality start

SUNRISE – Ben Scrivens didn’t register a win in his Canadiens debut, but he definitely opened plenty of eyes on Tuesday night. The 29-year-old netminder made 26 stops – including 12 in the opening 20 minutes of play – in the Canadiens’ 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center, keeping his new team within striking distance in a contest between the top two squads in the Atlantic Division. Unfortunately, Scrivens’ stellar work between the pipes wasn’t enough to earn his first NHL victory since March 25, when he was still a member of the Edmonton Oilers. “Personally, I felt pretty good. I got tested early and I thought I handled it well. Obviously, there’s stuff to build off of and pace of play and the skill level at the NHL level is a step above. Overall, just personally, I thought it was a good start,” offered Scrivens, who was acquired from Edmonton on Monday in exchange for Zack Kassian. “I thought I made some good saves and battled. That’s all I was trying to accomplish out there.” The Cornel
