MONTREAL – It’s hard to believe P.K. Subban hasn’t played in the NHL All-Star Game as of yet. The 26-year-old defenseman has accomplished so much since debuting with the Canadiens back in 2009-10 without making an appearance in the mid-season showcase for real. That will all change in three weeks’ time when the 2013 Norris Trophy winner heads to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville to ply his trade alongside 43 other top players in the game today. Subban, who was named to the Atlantic Division’s 11-man squad by the League’s Hockey Operations Department on Wednesday afternoon, will be one of three defenseman on Gerard Gallant’s contingent during the newly minted 3-on-3 tournament pitting all four divisions against one another. He’ll be joined by fellow rearguards Aaron Ekblad and Erik Karlsson, forwards Patrice Bergeron, Jaromir Jagr, Leo Komarov, Dylan Larkin, Ryan O’Reilly and Steven Stamkos, and goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Ben Bishop. MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Thursday the acquisition of right winger Max Friberg from the Anaheim Ducks, in return for goaltender Dustin Tokarski. He will join the IceCaps in St. John’s. Friberg, 23, has served two penalty minutes in six career NHL games with the Ducks. He has added 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) in 25 games with the AHL’s San Diego Gulls thus far this season. The 5’11’’ and 200 lb left winger has collected 98 points (38 goals, 60 assists) and 105 penalty minutes in 169 career games in the American Hockey League. On the international stage, Friberg helped Sweden capture the gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Championship (in Calgary and Edmonton). He led the tournament with nine goals and led his team with 11 points (tied for second among tournament point leaders), and was named to the tournament all-star team. Picking up his fifth shorthanded point of the campaign after sliding a perfect pass to Torrey Mitchell for the eventual game-winning goal, Byron now sits atop the NHL in points on the PK. Doing some of his best work when the team is down a man, the 26-year-old winger has played a major role in helping the Habs snuff out 84.8 percent of opposing power plays while countering with eight shorthanded markers. MONTREAL – P.K. Subban is headed to the 2016 NHL All-Star Game in Nashville. On Wednesday, the former Norris Trophy winner was named to the Atlantic Division’s 11-man squad for the mid-season showcase at Bridgestone Arena on Sunday, Jan. 31. He was one of 40 players selected by the League’s Hockey Operations Department. MONTREAL – Forward Max Pacioretty is the Molson Cup recipient for the month of December (10 points). He succeeds forward David Desharnais who was the Molson Cup award winner for November. Pacioretty earns the fourth Molson Cup award of the month of his career (January 2012, November 2013 and February-March 2014). Pacioretty earned two first star selections (on December 1 against Columbus and December 12 facing Ottawa) and as many second star selections (on December 3 versus Washington and December 22 at Minnesota). Pacioretty finished ahead of teammates Tomas Plekanec, Nathan Beaulieu and Paul Byron. The 27-year old team captain collected five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in 14 games in December. Pacioretty led the team in powerplay goals (2), winning tallies (2), shots on goal (61) and average time on ice per game among forwards (18:44).
